FIRE EXTINGUISHERS
FIRE EXTINGUISHERS
Select Extinguisher type to view products in that category.
A fire extinguisher is an absolute necessity in any home or office. (The Fire Triangle consists of OXYGEN - HEAT - FUEL and CHEMICAL REACTION. Remove any one element to extinguish a fire.) Fire extinguishers are designed to remove at least one of these elements so that a fire will die out.
Fire extinguishers are classified by the size and class of the fire they are designed to extinguish, and by their extinguishing agent. The higher the rating or classification, the greater the extinguishing capacity. For example, a unit classified 4A can be expected to extinguish twice as much class A fire as one classified 2A. Some extinguishers are able to put out more than one class of fire and are marked with multiple ratings such as AB, BC and ABC.
Class A fire extinguishers are effective against fires involving paper, wood, textiles and plastics. The primary chemical used to fight these fires is monoammonium phosphate, because of its ability to smother fires in these types of materials.
Class B fire extinguishers are effective against flammable liquid fires. These can be fires where cooking liquids, oil, gasoline, kerosene, or paint have become ignited. Two commonly used chemicals are effective in fighting these types of fires. Monoammonium phosphate effectively smothers the fire, while sodium bicarbonate induces a chemical reaction which extinguishes the fire.
Class C fire extinguishers are suitable for fires in "live" electrical equipment. Both monoammonium phosphate and sodium bicarbonate are commonly used to fight this type of fire because of their non-conductive properties.
|
ABC Multipurpose fire extinguishers are typically used in Offices, Homes, Warehouse areas, and Woodworking areas.
|
BC Regular Dry Chemical fire extinguishers are typically used in residential Kitchens, Garages, Service Bays, Boats, Vehicles, Fuel Storage and transfer areas.
|
CO2 fire extinguishers are typically used in Offshore Rigs, Ship Docks, Refineries, Chemical Plants, Aircraft Ramps, Contruction Sites, Large Laboratories, Manufacturing Plants, and Loading Racks.
|
Halotron Clean Agent fire extinguishers are typically used in Computer Rooms, Telephone Switches, Sensitive Electronic Equipment, Motor Control Centers, Control Rooms, and other valuable assets needing nondamaging agent.
|
Purple K Dry Chemical BC fire extinguishers are typically used in Garages, Service Bays, Boats, Vehicles, Fuel Storage and Transfer Areas. (Not recommended for use on sensitive electronic equipment.)
